Step into the kitchen of Australian Artist Jaqueline Burgess, where colours, textures, and style reflect her creative spirit.

Can you tell us a little bit about your self and what you do?:

I am a mother of two beautiful girls , a wife to a wonderful husband. I work as a full time artist, painting from my studio in Woonona (NSW South Coast).

What you love most about your kitchen and how it makes you feel:

We put a great deal of thought into how we planned the space to function as kitchen that gets used a lot for cooking and entertainment. I love how light filled it is and how the clever layout makes for easy and enjoyable cooking whilst hanging out with family and friends.

What inspired the colour scheme in your kitchen?:

We have a lot of artwork to display in the open plan space so a minimalist colour palette was essential.

What materials were used for the countertops and backsplash?

We used a ceasar stone bench top called ‘cloudburst’ our biggest backsplash is a large picture window looking out onto a lush garden bed.

Tell us about the lighting choices in your kitchen.

We have three grass pendant lights over the middle island bench for ambience, we also have a few task lights recessed in the ceiling.

What's your favourite feature or appliance in your kitchen?

We love our double Neff steam oven and separate warmer drawer, and our Zipp filter tap which doubles as instant boiling water too.

Are there any sustainability features incorporated into the kitchen design that you would like to share with us?

We tried to stretch our budget as far as possible to purchase appliances that were top of the range , so that they would last for years and not need replacing any time soon.

Can you share tips for maintaining the kitchen's cleanliness and organisation?

Clean as you cook! A tidy cook is a happy cook. I love having an organised space, dominance in sourcing inspiring content on Pinterest and instagram to keep me up to date and organised.

What advice do you have for readers looking to renovate their own kitchens?

If you like to cook like us, then I would say don’t compromise on quality appliances. More drawers than cupboards means that you have better use of space and easy access to cooking tools.
An organised pantry walk in or cupboard is key! So that you can use your own beautifully displayed pantry good as an inspiring shop for the meals you plan to cook. The kitchen for me needs to be functional but also beautiful. So I display lovely curated pieces that make me feel happy.

What's the best way for readers to personalise their kitchens like you did here?

Your personality needs to shine through in your kitchen design. If you love art - display art in your kitchen, or if you’re into pottery- put together a display of found and treasured pieces. Think about what makes you happy, what makes your heart sing when you look at it, maybe just a beautiful arrangement of flowers or a bowl full of coloured fruit.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us about your kitchen?

I love that my kitchen is a place that has become the stage for so many of our family events, discussions, laughter and great meals. So much happens in this happy space, and I can’t wait to design another one in our next house.
