The dining room, often the heart of our homes, is where memories are created over shared meals and conversations. It deserves a design that not only reflects your style but also creates an inviting ambiance.

Can you tell us a little bit about your self and what you do?:

Born and raised in Tasmania, I pursued a degree in Architecture and then relocated to Melbourne. There, I spent 15 years working as an architect. Later, my family and I moved to Wollongong to raise our children. At my core, I am a designer and a creative individual. Currently, I am engaged in several projects that allow me to utilise my skills, including my work in photographic art.

What do you love about your dining area:

I love the handmade tiles, inset into the concrete floor, it essentially is a hard surface mat under the table creating a sense of place for the dining room. My husband is Italian and I wanted to pay homage to the beautiful Italian places we have visited by creating a floor that is reminiscent of a tiled floor in Italy.

We used handmade clay zellige tiles sourced from Tiles of Ezra, set in a diagonal pattern to create texture and interest.

What inspired the colour scheme?

Natural earthy tones are at the heart of my overall colour scheme for my home and are reflected here in our dining area.

What inspired your lighting choices:

I am absolutely in love with the two woven pendant lights sourced from The Dharma Door. These two pendant lights are like putting earrings on to finish off an outfit, they complete the dining room. At night when we turn the lights on there is a gentle warm light that emanates from the dark brown woven pendants that give an earthy ambience to the room.

Do you have a favourite feature in your dining space?

The dining room has a bi-fold door that opens up to connect it with the outside deck area.

Can you share tips for maintaining the rooms organisation?

I have a large antique sideboard where I store all my dinner plates and table decorations, it makes setting up for a dinner party very easy, it makes me feel organised.

What advice do you have for readers looking to refresh their dining space?

Do your research and narrow your ideas down to one clear idea. Do not be afraid to use oversized pendants, they generate a beautiful kind of energy, creating and anchoring a space.

What's the best way for readers to personalise their space like you did here?

I find that when I use antique pieces they add depth to a space, they immediately give it a soul. Bringing a lived-in energy to a new space is important.
